Abstract

1458928 Plate heat exchangers APV CO Ltd 17 Oct 1975 [9 Dec 1974] 53162/74 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger comprising a stack of spaced-apart plates in which the plate interspaces are bounded by flexible gaskets 4, the gaskets are bonded (e.g. by an adhesive) to both plates defining a plate interspace. The plates may be made up of preformed pre-bonded pairs in the interspace of which flows one heat exchange medium, with conventional gasketting for the other medium flowing in the spaces between adjacent pairs. Or the second or additional bonding may be effected after the plate stack is assembled. As shown, each gasket 4 is seated in a groove or recess 3 extending around the periphery of the plate interspace and around the supply and discharge ports in the plates (see Fig. 1), the gasket being secured by an adhesive into the groove and also via the face 4a to the adjacent plate. The plates have transverse corrugations 2.
