Abstract

1454974 Cleaning aluminium AMCHEM PRODUCTS Inc 11 Feb 1975 [14 Feb 1974] 5692/75 Heading C7E An Al (or Al-based) surface is cleaned by contact with an aqueous acidic solution containing 0.005 to 0.1 g/l of active fluoride, measured as HF, and 1-10 g/l H 2 SO 4 , at 90-135‹F. The content of active fluoride may be measured using a fluoride specific ion electrode, and the source of fluoride is preferably HF but may be NaF, NH4F, NH4HF2 or a complex fluoride. 1-10 g/l of a surfactant may be added, e.g. Na-2-ethyl hexyl sulphate, a polyethoxylated straight chain alcohol, an alkyl polyethoxylated ether or an octylphenoxy polyethoxyethanol. The pH of the solution is generally 1-1.8, and the immersion time “ to 2 minutes.
