Abstract

1445707 Imidazolyl-indane and -tetralin derivatives SCHERING AG 20 Aug 1973 [9 Sept 1972] 39288/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises the cis- and transisomers and mixtures thereof of compounds of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen or halogen atoms, R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R 7 are hydrogen, halogen, NO 2 , (C 1-4 ) alkyl or alkoxy or phenyl groups or two adjacent symbols selected from R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R 7 together with the benzene ring form a naphthalene ring system and n is 1 2, and also physiologically tolerable salts thereof with acids. They may be obtained by reacting a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula wherein X is halogen or a reactive ester group, in the presence of an alkali metal base, and if required, the resulting compound is converted into a physiologically tolerable salt thereof with an acid. Examples are given for the production of these compounds. The compounds of Formula I have good pharmaceutical activity against dermatophytes and may be applied orally or externally. The compounds of Formula II may be obtained by either (a) reacting a 1-indanone or 1- tetralone appropriately substituted in the benzene ring in a solvent with Br 2 to give a bromo-ketone which is then reacted with imidazole in a solvent and reduced with a reducing agent, e.g. NaBH 4 , or (b) reducing the bromoketone obtained by method (a) with a reducing agent, e.g. NaBH 4 , to the bromohydrin and reacting this bromohydrin with imidazole in a solvent.
