Abstract
1352089 Substituted bis-styryltriazoles CIBAGEIGY AG 20 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 12891/72 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C5 and D1] Novel substituted bis-styryltriazoles having the general formula wherein B 1 is a stilbenylene-(4,4<SP>1</SP>) radical optionally substituted in the 2 and/or 2<SP>1</SP> positions, or a divalent dibenzothiophene-5,5- dioxide-(3,7) radical optionally substituted in the 2- and 8-positions; X 1 and X 1 <SP>1</SP> are hydrogen, halogen, methyl or optionally substituted phenyl; R 1 and R 1 <SP>1</SP> are hydrogen, (C 1 -C 6 ) alkyl, halogen, (C 1 -C 4 ) alkoxy or optionally substituted phenyl; and R 2 and R 2 <SP>1</SP> are hydrogen, (C 1 -C 6 ) alkyl, halogen or (C 1 -C 4 ) alkoxy, are prepared by cyclizing a compound of the formula or of the formula wherein X 1 <SP>11</SP> is hydrogen methyl or optionally substituted phenyl, either in the presence of a condensation agent possessing an acid reaction, with heating if necessary, or in the presence of an oxidizing agent to give the corresponding triazole-1-oxide, and reacting the triazole-1- oxide either with nascent hydrogen to give the triazole derivative or with hydrogen halide to give the 4-halogeno-triazole. The novel compounds may be used as optical brightening agents, e.g. in detergent compositions.
