1476215 Dibenzoxepin derivatives DAIICHI SEIYAKU CO Ltd 23 July 1974 [24 July 1973 25 July 1973 26 July 1973] 40074/76 Divided out of 1476214 Heading C2C The invention comprises 6,11-dihydro-11- oxodibenz[b,e]oxepin-2-acetic acid and C 1 -C 4 alkyl esters thereof, and method of preparing these compounds. The compounds are prepared by cyclizing a compound of general Formula I where R is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, optionally with a cyclizing agent (e.g. an acid), and if desired hydrolysing the product to obtain the acid. I may be obtained by reacting a phenol derivative of general formula with either phthalide (e.g. at 150-250 C. in the absence of a solvent) or with a halomethylbenzene derivative of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl group, in a solvent (e.g. methanol or dimethylformamide) in the presence of a base (e.g. an alkali metal hydroxide or alkoxide). The compounds may be incorporated in pharmaceutical preparations.
