1442330 Lamps THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 Sept 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 44240/72 Heading F4R [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] A lighting unit, in particular a sealed beam lamp, comprises a reflector 10 and a light bulb 11 attached to the reflector, the bulb having sheet metal legs 14 which serve as lead-in conductors and are provided with apertures 23 at their free ends and the unit having electrically conductive supports 20 which pass through the reflector and engage in the apertures, the parts of the legs around the apertures lying against abutment surfaces to locate the bulb relative to the reflector. When the reflector is made of metal the supports are surrounded by insulating sleeves 21 which provide the abutment surfaces 22, but if the reflector is made of insulating material the sleeves are omitted and the abutment surfaces may be formed by the reflector itself. Alternatively the supports may consist of sheet metal posts (34, Fig. 3, not shown) the ends of which are bent through 90 degrees and are provided with studs (35) to engage the apertures in the legs (33) of the bulb. In this embodiment the abutment surfaces are formed by the ends of the posts. The bulb may be a single- or twinfilament tungsten-halogen lamp or a high intensity discharge lamp, and the legs may either be releasably attached to the supports or secured thereto, or to the abutment surfaces, by welding, brazing, soldering, adhesives or by mechanical deformation of the supports. The bulb may be single- or double-ended.
