Abstract
1441342 Semi-moist coated pet food QUAKER OATS CO 12 July 1974 [25 March 1974] 31031/74 Heading A2B An animal food comprises an expanded cereal bearing extrudate surrounding an intermediate moisture center filling comprising per 100 parts by wt. (on a dry basis) from 10-50 parts meat or meat by products, 15-40 parts sugar, or sugar equivalents, 10-40 parts vegetable protein material and an effective amount of an antimycotic, wherein the filling has a moisture content of 15-40%, a pH of 4.5-7.0 and a water activity of 0.7-0.9. The food is made by extruding the cereal through an annular die under puffing conditions whilst centre extruding the semi-moist filling made by mixing the components together, and drying the food to a moisture content of the cereal extrudate of less than 15%.
