Abstract

1437411 Gas vessels PRELOAD TECHNOLOGY Inc 24 July 1973 [27 Sept 1972] 35287/73 Heading F4P A tank for cryogenic liquid to be installed in a ship comprises a concrete wall 60 of circular or elliptical cross-section with steel prestressing elements 64, a circumferential steel sheath 65 with prestressing elements 68 wrapped singly or helically therearound, and at least two annular stiffening discs 72a, 72b, of steel or concrete, positioned in the wall, a plurality of stiffening plates 74 with prestressing elements 82, the end of the wall being closed by steel domed or domed/toroidal closures, and an inlet and outlet for the liquid. The wall is built from a number or ring-like modules 60a, 60b &c., each cast with the plates 74, and stiffening discs 72, and is made into an integral unit by prestressing. In Figs. 8 and 9, not shown, the discs 72 are extended beyond the wall to provide posts for supporting the tank. In Fig. 8 a fixed support has a balsa wood recess in a cradle (38), and in Fig. 9 the post can slide on a balsa wood pad (141) in a cradle (138).
