Abstract

1437324 Drafting arrangement PLATT SACO LOWELL Ltd 17 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 38696/72 Headings DID and D1N A textile drafting system comprises a pair of endless conveyors 11, 12 with adjacent runs between which fibres are conveyed from a feed region to a delivery region, the conveying surface of one of the conveyors having a plurality of projections 19 spaced apart along the length thereof and the conveying surface of the other conveyor having a plurality of depressions spaced apart along the length thereof so that the fibres are conveyed in a non-linear path between adjacent runs of the conveyors, and in the delivery region a pair of rollers 22, 23 rotating at a faster peripheral speed than the conveyors so that fibres are drafted by the conveyors and delivery rollers. The projections 19 may be arranged to enter the depressions of the other conveyor or may be located with their outer ends coplanar with the open ends of the depressions. A pair of feed rollers may be positioned upstream of the conveyors rotating at a peripheral speed lower than the conveyors. The conveying runs are preferably divided into two section by a roller 32 which is movable in to directions, viz parallel to the direction of movement of the conveyor runs and perpendicular thereto. The grip exerted by the conveyors on the fibres may therefore be varied both as to location and pressure. The conveyors pass round rollers 13, 14 and 15, 16 which have teeth 17 engaging recesses formed in the undersurfaces of the conveyors. The roller 14 is preferably adjustable to vary the degree of divergence of the delivery region of the conveyor runs. The roller 15 is adjustable to ensure registration of the projections 19 of the one conveyor and the depressions of the other.
