Abstract
1437292 Rotary retort furnaces ALCO STANDARD CORP 14 Aug 1974 [29 Oct 1973] 35821/74 Heading F4B A rotary furnace 10 has a cluster of cylindrical retorts 21 anchored rigidly around a central cylinder 25 and secured within an outer drum 26 consisting of refractory brick 27 and a steel shell 29. The drum 26 is supported on four rollers 31, between end shells 15 and 16 within an outer jacket 11, and is rotated by the motor 35 around the axis 23. Workpieces from the hopper 40 pass through the gate 44 into the cylinder 25 and are distributed by vanes 47 and tubes 49 to the retorts 21. Augerlike screws 51 advance the workpieces along the retorts 21 for delivery to the shoot 54. Gas for the furnace atmosphere from the pipe 59 is heated by electric elements 57 and is circulated by a fan 60 aligned with a sleeve 61 on the end of the cylinder 25.
