Abstract
1,246,992. Rotary kilns. M. R. TEMBE. 28 Nov., 1968, No. 56566/68. Heading F4B. A rotary kiln for the continuous carbonization of coal comprises spaced inner and outer shells D, A which provide therebetween passages C for heated gases from burners F, a chimney hood M communicating with the passages, a coal charging device J, J 2 , rollers R on which the kiln is rotated and a settling pool Q in which the coal is held during evolution of the volatile products which are exhausted through a pipe L in a stationary disc K. The passages C are straight or helical and are formed by radial refractory spacers which may be integral with the inner and/or outer shell. The burners F which are equal in number to the passages C, are mounted in a stationary casing G. The chimney hood M, disc K, chamber G, and a coke discharge chamber N are provided with flexible supports, and gas seals. The kiln may be horizontal and provided with a coal moving device, or inclined as shown.
