Abstract

318,650. Winzer, C. B. March 8, 1928. Brick, pottery, and like kilns; metal-heating furnaces; drying-furnaces; casings and walls; charging and discharging.-A continuously operated furnace or kiln comprises a stationary hearth or platform, on which the goods or materials are placed, and a continuously movable or travelling tunnel A with furnaces arranged to provide heating and cooling zones. In the annular furnace shown producer gas is supplied through pipes J. J<1> to combustion chambers H arranged on the inner periphery of the tunnel and the waste gases are exhausted through the pipe K and chimney L. The goods to be heated are carried on trucks C, which are passed into the loading and unloading sections of the tunnel over a platform N. This platform moves with the tunnel, but can be moved a short distance relatively thereto to allow a newly-charged truck to be brought opposite the loading opening immediately a fired charge has been withdrawn. The loading and unloading section can be isolated from the remainder of the tunnel by doors.
