Abstract

1435372 Telescopic jib cranes POTAIN 24 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 19417/73 Heading B8B A crane, Figs. 2, 8, comprises a mobile chassis 1 carrying a rotatable platform 2 on which is pivoted a mast 5 tilted from a horizontal transport position by a ram 18. A telescopic jib is pivoted by its foot 6 on the top of the mast 5 and has a sliding head 8 carrying a lifting hook 15. The jib head 8 is extended by a cable 26 and retracted by a cable 32 respectively reeved around movable pulleys 23, 24 on a carriage 22 and pulleys 25, 31 fixed in the mast 5. The carriage 22 is moved to telescope the jib by a ram 36, which is actuated when the ram 18 has been fully extended. In a modification, Fig. 5, the ram 36 is omitted and the carriage 22 is moved mechanically through a knuckle system, Figs. 11 to 13 (not shown), which " breaks " before the ram 18 is fully extended, causing the jib head 8 to extend (arrow 50) while the mast 5 is still rising (arrow 51). This causes the tip of the jib head 8 to follow a trajectory 52 adapted to move a load around and above an obstacle (such as a house 53 under construction, as shown in Fig. 2). In a further modification, Figs. 14, 15 (not shown), jib raising tie 12 has its amchoring point (14) arranged to move along a path (62) in the shape of an arc of a circle in order to modify the trajectory 52 of the tip of the jib head 8.
