Abstract
1432827 2,3 - Dicyano - 1,4 - dithia - anthrahydroquinone and -anthraquinone CELAMERCK GmbH & CO KG 11 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42593/73 Heading C2C 2,3 - Dicyano - 1,4 - dithiaanthrahydroquinone is prepared by reacting a salt of 1,2-dicyano- 1,2-dimereaptoethene with 2-chloronaphthoquinone-(1,4) in the presence of an acid. Preferred salts are the alkali metal or ammonium salts. The reaction is preferably effected in an aqueous suspension. The 2,3-dicyano-1,2-dithiaanthrahydroquinone may be dehydrogenated with an oxidizing agent such as chromic acid, iron (III)-bichromate in the presence of dilute sulphuric acid or iron (III)-chloride to give 2,3-dicyano-1,4-dithiaanthraquinone.
