Abstract

1432290 Refining alloy steel FRIED KRUPP HUTTENWERKE AG 19 June 1974 [4 July 1973] 27246/74 Heading C7A A chromium containing steel is decarbonized by creating a uni-directional circulation in a bath of the liquid steel, blowing oxygen on to or into the bath while simultaneously adding reducing substances (e.g. Aluminium) to the bath in a position downstream of the oxygen impact point. The process may be carried out in vacuum or with the simultaneous injection of inert gas or gas yielding substance (e.g. quicklime or limestone). The uni-directional circulation may be about a vertical or horizontal axis and may be achieved by the injection at the angle of the oxygen, inert gas, gas yielding substance or additive for liquefying the slag or by electromagnetic or mechanical means.
