1430538 Convertible sofa/bed A METAYER 8 Aug 1974 [4 Oct 1973] 34969/74 Heading A4J In a sofa/bed combination the head end 18 is folded to lie between a central portion 19 and an over-lying parallel foot end 21, the portions 19 and 21 being connected by vertical intermediate portion 20. The assembly 18-21 is movable bodily in its folded condition from the seat portion of the sofa to the position shown in Fig. 1 by links 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, the link 26 causing extension of a supporting foot 27 during this motion. The bed surface is then unfolded by anti-clockwise rotation of foot portion 21 with respect to portion 20. Thereafter stud 49 engages the dog leg of slat 50 to constrain link 37 to slide along slot 39 as portion 20 is rotated anti-clockwise with respect to portion 19. During this motion link 35 rotates link 33 to cause clockwise rotation of head portion 18 until it is arrested by stop 31 on link 30. A mattress may be accommodated between portions 18-21 when in the folded position.
