Abstract
1429415 Pipe joints JAMES HARDY & CO PTY Ltd 22 March 1974 12981/74 Heading F2G A pipe joint between adjacent ends of two coaxial pipes 3, 4 comprises circumferential retention grooves 8, 9 formed in the pipe ends with seatings 14, 15 formed between the retention grooves and the end faces of the pipes 3, 4 and a coupling sleeve 7 having housing grooves 20, 21 formed therein of triangular cross-section and containing V-cross-section resilient sealing rings 18, 19 to bear against the seatings 14, 15, the coupling sleeve also having retention grooves 12, 13 formed therein for register with the retention grooves 8, 9 in the pipe ends, and lock rings 10, 11 of plastics rope material bedded between the mutually registering pairs of retention grooves, the rope material being fed tangentially into the grooves from outside through openings (not shown) in the sleeve. The seatings 14, 15 are preferably of slightly less diameter than the pipes 3, 4 and formed so as to provide shoulders 16, 17 against which the sealing rings 18, 19 abut. O-rings may be substituted for the V-section sealing rings 18, 19 if desired. The pipes 3, 4 and the coupling sleeve 7 may be of asbestos, cement, aluminium or plastics and the plastics rope material for the link rings 10, 11 may be of polyethylene terephthalate or nylon.
