Abstract

1427037 Rear view mirrors RAYDYOT Ltd 10 Jan 1974 [13 Feb 1973] 6945/73 Heading B7J A vehicle mirror comprises a break-away joint between a base 10 for fixing to a vehicle and a stem 16 carrying a mirror head 20, the stem having an extension formed by a pivoted plate 22 extending into a recess in the base 10 with a laterally projecting frangible cotter pin 34 retaining a spring 38 between the base 10 and a washer 30 fitted on the plate 22. The spring normally holds the stem 16 in its position for use while allowing limited deflection of the stem under minor impact with resilient recovery to the normal position, but on more major impact the stem breaks away from the base by shearing the pin 34.
