Abstract

1426641 Colour developer composition FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 24 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972] 3697/73 Heading C4A [Also in Divisions D2 and G2] A colour developer composition for use in recording sheets and which is capable of reacting with a colour former to form a colour image comprises (1) a salt of an aromatic carboxylic acid with a metal selected from Groups Ib, IIa, IIb, IIIa, IVa, VIb, VIIb and VIII of the Periodic Table (as shown in the Handbook of Chemistry and Industry) and (2) a salt of a metal (other than an alkali metal) with sulphuric acid, nitric, hydrocyanic, phosphoric or hydrohalic acid or an aliphatic carboxylic acid. In salt (1) the metal is suitably Cu, Ag, Mg, Ca, Zn, Cd, Hg, Al, Sn, Pb, Cr, Mo, Mn, Co or Ni and the aromatic acid preferably contains a hydroxyl group, halogen or an alkoxy carbonyl or alkyl carbonyl or other electron-attracting groups. The salts (2) are preferably of Cu, Al, Mn, Ni, Ag, Co or Fe and the aliphatic acid may be acetic, formic, citric or oxalic acid. The composition may comprise 0À5-10 parts of salt (2) per 100 parts of salt (1), and also an acidic resin, e.g. phenolformaldehyde, an inorganic pigment such as zinc oxide, hydroxide or carbonate, TiO 2 or a .clay or earth, and a binder which may be a natural or synthetic polymer and an aqueous or organic solvent. A recording sheet may be coated on one face with the developer composition and the resulting sheet used for pressure sensitive recording in conjunction with another sheet bearing a colour-former in microcapsule form a middle recording sheet may bear a layer of the developer on one face and microcapsules of former on the reverse face. A single recording sheet may be prepared with the developer and microcapsules of former applied to the same one face. The preferred formers are crystal violet lactone and benzoyl leuco methylene blue. Reference is also made to thermosensitive recording wherein the colour former and a thermofusible substance, e.g. acetanilide are coated on a sheet support. Specification 1,376,945 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,348,961.
