Abstract
1426518 Monitoring filaments SOC DE LA VISCOSE SUISSE and MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 16 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 23415/73 Heading G1M A moving filament or bundle of filaments is monitored pneumatically by guiding it at right angles to and through two air-streams directed towards one another, the air-streams being of different intensities, the filament or bundle of filaments being guided nearer to the air-stream of higher intensity, and the pressure changes of the air-stream of smaller intensity being measured. Air is supplied to nozzles 5 and 7 via restrictors 10, 12, and the pressure in conduit 8 leading to nozzle 7 is monitored by a pressure amplifier 14. Nozzle 5 is narrower than nozzle 7, is nearer the filament 1 than nozzle 7, and is supplied with a higher pressure than nozzle 7, the arrangement being such that in the presence of a filament air issues from both nozzles 5, 7, but in the absence of the filament the air jet from nozzle 5 prevents air leaving nozzle 7. The filament is guided by outwardly open guide slots 3a, 3b and inwardly open guide slots 4a, 4b.
