1425663 Potato digging machine F H GRIMME [trading as FRANZ GRIMME LANDMASCHINENFABRIK] 29 Nov 1973 [2 Dec 1972] 55456/73 Heading A1F A crop digging machine for potatoes, turnips, parsnips, comprises a screen conveyor 11 supported at its front end by way of its rollers 12 being connected (by means not shown) to a frame 4 which is supported on the machine chassis 2 so as to allow pivoting about both a longitudinal and transverse axis to accommodate ground level variations between the rows of crops and to ensure adequate penetration of digging shares 10. Ridge rollers 6, 7 and disc coulters 8, 9 are supported by the frame in front of the shares 10. In Fig. 2 any rise in the level of frame arm 18 or 19 causes a compensating linkage 27 to effect clockwise or anticlockwise pivoting of the frame about a longitudinal axis. The arms 18, 19 are pivoted about an axis 20 to intermediate lever arms 22, 23 which are pivoted to the chassis 2 at 24, 25 and to the linkage 27 at 30, 31. In one modification the arms 22, 23 are omitted and the linkage 27 is pivoted directly to the arms 18, 19 whose rear ends slide vertically in respective guide slots secured to the chassis. In another modification the frame 4 is a rectangle with its rear transverse bar mounted on a longitudinal pivot pin which extends from a further transverse bar mounted on the chassis. The pivot pin may also be connected to the frame so as to allow the arms 18, 19 to pivot vertically about a transverse axis as well as a longitudinal axis. Alternatively the transverse bar to which the pivot pin is attached may be rofatable about a horizontal axis. The screen conveyor 11 leads to a hoist conveyor, a separating conveyor and a collection bin.
