Abstract

1407804 Windows CIBA-GEIGY AG and TEMPERIT AG 30 Oct 1972 [22 Nov 1971] 49913/72 Heading E1J [Also in Division C1] Thermally tempered glazing comprises at least one pane 1 of glass having at least one incision 2 formed in at least one of its surfaces, each incision forming a weakened region and extending into the inherent tensile stress region of the pane, each said incision forming a breaking point for substantially instantaneous disintegration of the whole pane when pressure is applied to the pane. The incision 2 may be an annular groove. The width of the incision may be up to 3 mm where the glass is at least 5.2 mm thick. Preferably the pane of glass is formed, the incision made, and the incised plane then tempered. The glazing may be employed with sheet la to form a doubleglazing unit, sheet 1 being provided with a metal point 3 which breaks sheet la when pressure is applied to sheet 1.
