Abstract
1406082 Electro-deposition apparatus AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DE LA RECHERCHE 9 June 1972 [9 June 1971] 9624/75 Divided out of 1406081 Heading C7B Metal electro-deposition apparatus has an external circuit for circulating electrolyte E having particles P suspended therein to and from an electrolytic cell 4, the circuit including a container 11 for receiving suspension passed through the cell e.g. via pipe 19, means, e.g. electrolyte reservoir 15 with pump 13 connected by pipe 12 to the container lower end 11a, for establishing in the container a vertically upwards flow of electrolyte through a grid 16 of mesh opening less than the particle diameter to maintain particles above the grid e.g. in zone 11b suspended in the electrolyte, and means for withdrawing suspension above the grid from the container e.g. via pipe 17 and recycling it e.g. via pump 5 and pipe 6 through the cell, e.g. between a cylindrical platinized Ti anode 2 and the advancing cathode sheet, strip or wire 1 to be metal coated, and back to the container e.g. via pipe 19 at a region 11 c above that of its withdrawal. The anode is preferably spaced from the cathode by insulating sealing abutments, and may be formed of flexible material to permit treatment of a curved cathode surface. For metal coating the inner surface of a tube, the anode is moved along the axis inside the tube as cathode Fig. 9 (not shown). To obtain a metal coating band along a generatrix on a rotating tube as cathode, an anode of the width of the band is used. At least one auxiliary anode (57) Fig. 12 (not shown) may be used to metal coat on localized cathode surface regions which are not or only partially coatable by the main anode. The cell may be adapted Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) to effect localized treatments on a surface e.g. to repair a metal coating or provide a protective coating.
