Abstract

1405938 Toy aeroplanes, &c KUSAN INC 18 Aug 1972 [20 Aug 1971] 38645/72 Heading A6S A toy comprises in combination a support line having means for securing a first end of the line at a certain height, a control means connected to the second end of the support line and capable of varying the tension or sag in the support line, a toy aeroplane including an aeroplane, support arranged to slide along the support line while supporting the aeroplane from the line, and a launcher arranged to propel the aeroplane along the support line in a forward direction. As shown, a toy aeroplane 300, Fig 8, is suspended from a line 24 by a single hook 318 which is skewed relative to the main axis of the aeroplane, Fig 10. An elastic catapult 324 is provided on a take-off and landing plate 302. A post 54 securing one end of the line 24 is clamped above the take-off &c plate 302. The other end of the line 24 is secured to a post 114 (see also Fig 5) on a slidable shaft 108 in a control unit 26 simulating the cockpit of an aeroplane. A steering wheel 112 allows the shaft 108 both to be turned and to be slidden axially. The toy aeroplane has a rudder 314 so inclined that the twist imposed on it by the skewed arrangement of the hook 318 is. aerodynamically opposed when it is catapulted up the line 24. The aeroplane 300 thus proceeds nose-first up the line 24. When the aeroplane 300 finally comes to rest, the skewed hook 318 causes it to turn through 180 degrees, with its nose pointing down the line 24. The toy aeroplane then slides back down the line 24 to land on the take-off &c plate 302. During both directions of flight, the aeroplane is controlled from the steering wheel 112. Pushing, &c the steering wheel 112 slackens, &c the lines 24, and allows control of the speed of movement of the aeroplane 300. Turning the steering wheel 112 causes the post 114 to tilt, moving the line 24 sideways so that the aeroplane simulates a turning movement. A know form, Fig 1, omits the catapult, the aeroplane 32 being suspended by two hooks 46, 48 from the line 24 hung between a post 22 clamped to a table, and the control unit 26 described above. The post 22 carries a reel 28 upon which the line 24 is wound for storage, and a catch 60 engageable by the elevator tail control (40), Fig 2 (not shown), of the toy aeroplane 32. To use the toy, the line 24 is slackened and the aeroplane 32 is slidden backwards up the line 24 to engage its tail elevators (40) with the catch 60 on the post 22. The aeroplane 32 is then suspended by its tail with its nose pointed downwardly. The control wheel 112 of the control unit 26 is operated to tighten the line 24, when the aeroplane is automatically pivoted up and thus released from the catch 60 to slide down the line 24. In another method of using this known form, the control unit 26, Fig 7, is placed upon a table 102, and the other end is tied to a chair leg 200. At the start of a flight, the aeroplane 32 is placed upon the table 102. When the control unit 26 is operated to tighten the line 24, the aeroplane is lifted off the table and slides down the line 24.
