Abstract

1401485 Elevated railways P PATIN 16 Nov 1972 [16 Nov 1971] 53012/72 Heading B7L An elevated railway support system comprises a catenary suspension formed by a carrying cable 2 secured to pylons 1a, 1b &c. and provided at intervals along its length with hanger bars 4a, 4b, 4c &c. carrying at their lower ends a substantially rigid track 6, 7 (forming a Vierendeel beam with rails 6 and 7 interconnected by C-shaped brackets 5a, 5b, 5c &c.) for suspended vehicles. The rails 6 and 7 are parallel one above the other and are bolted to the brackets 5a, 5b, 5c &c. which are in turn fastened to respective hanger bars 4a, 4b, 4c &c. These bars vary in length according to their distance from successive pylons so that the rails 6, 7 are substantially straight. The rails 6, 7 are tubular and successive sections thereof are connected by a tubular pin element (25), Fig. 8 (not shown), received frictionally and telescopically within the ends of the sections. Traversers and points for the system are described with reference to Figs. 12-17 (not shown).
