Abstract

1400465 Feeding webs XEROX CORP 8 June 1972 [11 June 1971] 26758/72 Heading B8R [Also in Division B4] Apparatus for feeding and cutting a web in an electrostatographic recording machine comprises cutting means 118, 119 for the web, means for metering the web to the cutting means, means for feeding the web to the metering means, and control means between the feeding means and the metering means for selectively changing the speed at which the metering means feeds the web to the cutting means 118, 119 relative to the speed at which the web is fed to the metering means to maintain a substantially uniform web tension. A rotary blade 119 may co-operate with a fixed blade for cutting, the blade 119 being driven in synchronism with a metering roller 111 through gears 123, 124), Fig. 3 (not shown), replaceable to alter the cutting length. The control means may comprise a dancer roller 106 slidable in tracks 107, rise of the roller 106 under web tension being limited by a microswitch 109 operable to disengage the drive of the roller 111, preferably by means of a magnetic clutch circuit, Fig. 4 (not shown). The roller may be driven by a belt (116), Fig. 1 (not shown), from the drive motor (12) of an electrophotographic cylinder (10), and the roller 111 preferably rotates at a slightly higher surface speed than the cylinder (10) to maintain a required minimum tension.
