Abstract

1400152 Cleaning open end spinning machines PLATT SACO LOWELL LTD 1 Sept 1972 [3 Sept 1971] 41236/71 Headings D1F and D1N Apparatus for cleaning a multi-station openend spinning machine comprises a waste chamber 6 for each station e.g. S2, a common duct 8 connectable to all the waste chambers 6 to purge the chambers, a normally closed gate 28 associated with each waste chamber 6 and controlling the connection between the Chamber 6 and the duct 8, and an endless belt 14 which, in use, moves to cause or allow each gate 28 in turn to be moved from a closed position to an open position and then, back to said closed position to produce in succession an intermittent connection between each Chamber 6 and the duct 8 to thereby purge the chambers in succession. In the preferred embodiment the waste from the opening roller of the open-end spinning machine falls into the Chamber 6 which is connected via a pipe 10 to the duct 8 which is connected to a suction device. The pipe 10 is connected to the duct 8 by means of a gate essembly 12 comprising an apertured block 16 bolted to an apertured block 20. Located in a slot 26 between the blocks 16, 20 is the gate 28 which is also apertured at 30. The belt 14 runs within a groove 38 provided in the block 20 and is provided with one or more cam surfaces engaging a pin 31 provided on the gate 28. The pin 31 has a head 32 located in a groove 34 in the block 16 whereby engagement with the cam surface(s) causes the gate to be moved up and down to bring the apertures 22, 24, 30 into and out of engagement. The gate is held in either position by a spring biassed ball 36. In the preferred embodiment two cam members are provided on the belt and are spaced apart, one cam member causing upward movement of the gate and the other downward movement. In a further embodiment one cam member is used to open the apertures and the gate returns to the closed position under the action of a spring.
