Abstract

1382652 Spindle drives PLATT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 20 March 1973 [23 March 1972] 13696/72 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] A belt drive for an open end spinning rotor comprises a primary belt 14, two rotatable members 9, 11 and a secondary belt 15 which drives the rotor shaft 2. The primary belt 14 and the two rotatable members 9, 11 are relatively movable so that there can be selective contact between the primary belt 14 and either of the rotatable members and thus the rotor may be driven at a high speed sufficient to spin yarn or at a lower speed to effect piecing up. As shown, drive to the rotor shaft 2 is transmitted from primary belt 14 via the secondary belt 15 by either of the differently sized lay shafts 10, 12 which drive the secondary belt. Alternatively, the lay shafts could be the same size with pulleys 9, 11 being of different sizes. The drive is selected by a pneumatic ram 16 acting on T-piece 7. The rotatable members 9, 10, 11, 12 and the rotor shaft 2 are mounted on a movable support which can be moved to disengage the primary belt drive and brake the secondary belt via brake pads 19. The secondary belt 15 can be tensioned by mounting one of the rotatable members 9, 10, 11, 12 in spring-loaded bearings.
