Abstract

1395767 Silver halide materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 3 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 20600/72 Heading G2C [Also in Division C2] A sensitive photographic material comprises in a silver halide layer or a layer adjacent thereto a compound of general Formula:- in which A is a cation, X is S or Se, R<SP>1</SP> to R<SP>5</SP> each represent H, optionally substituted alkyl, or a sulphonic acid or sulphonate group provided that at least one of R<SP>1</SP> to R<SP>5</SP> represent a sulphonic acid or sulphonate group, m and n are each 0 or an integer, the sum of m and n being from 1 to 8, or a compound of general Formula:- in which A is a cation, X is S or Se, R<SP>6</SP> is aryl or optionally substituted alkyl, R<SP>7</SP> is aryl or optionally substituted alkyl, α and # each represent H, optionally substituted alkyl or an aryl group or alternatively they are electrons which form a second bond between the carbon atoms carrying Y and L; Y and Z each represent H, optionally substituted alkyl or an aryl group, or taken together complete a cyclic nucleus which may be substituted. At low concentrations (0.005- 1.0 gm/mole silver halide) the compounds act as anti-foggants and at higher concentrations (1.0- 50 gm/mole silver halide) as incorporated silver halide solvents which become active during processing.
