Abstract

1394192 Axial-flow and centrifugal fans SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN AB 23 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 39304/72 Heading F1C A fan inlet throat comprises at least one pair of rings 2, 3 of different internal diameter and arranged close to one another with the ring 2 of greater internal diameter disposed upstream of the ring 3, the rings being connected by an annular plate 1 having its outer and inner diameters substantially corresponding to the respective internal diameters of the rings 2, 3, the resultant abrupt reduction of flow area creating a toroidal vortex 8 rolling against the annular plate, and the axial length L of the two rings and the internal diameters D 2 and D 1 of the rings 2 and 3 respectively being such that:- The invention may be applied to a centrifugal fan, the ring 3 then either being spaced axially from the impeller or protruding into the impeller eye.
