Abstract

1393897 Fuel injection pumps C A V Ltd 21 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 35313/71 Heading F1A A rotary distributer fuel injection pump has a rotary distributer member 11 having a passage 18, 19, which when pressurized, simultaneously communicates with one of a plurality of outlet ports 20 and with one or other end of a transverse bore 26 containing a freely reciprocable shuttle 27, the fuel actually delivered to the outlet 20 commencing as soon as the shuttle strikes the opposite end of its bore 26. Fuel enters and leaves the ends of the bore 26 through ports 31, 32. Each port alternately registers with a highpressure slot 34 and a low-pressure slot 33, there being a plurality of such slots in the periphery of the member 11. Thus when the passage 18, 19 registers with an outlet port 20, a slot 34 communicates, via an associated passage 21, with one end of the bore 26, the opposite end of the bore being connected by a low-pressure slot 33 to a feed passage 23. The resulting stroke of the shuttle 27 is adjustable by a rotatable cam 29 thereby to vary the quantity delivered. Fuel enters the pumping cylinders 13 through the passages 21 each time one of the latter aligns with an inlet port 22.
