Abstract

1393032 Electrostatic precipitators METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 6 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 26380/72 Heading B2J [Also in Division G3] A device for throttling and guiding a gas flow e.g. for improving the operation of coolers or electrostatic precipitators, comprises a number of juxtaposed parallel throttling means 2, Fig. 1, of angle cross-section carried by respective beams 1 and having a number of staggered apertures 4 in their sides. In an alternative arrangement the throttling means of each beam may comprise several bent strips (8), Fig. 2 (not shown), placed side-by-side along the associated beam. In Fig. 5a the device is located in a gas deflector with the apices of the throttling means lying in plane I-I and pointing against the direction of fall of dust carried by the gas so that the falling dust will slide down the sloping sides of the throttling means and collect in bin 14. The beams may be displaced relatively in parallel to provide a non-uniform arrangement complementary to a non-uniform gas inflow to produce a uniform gas outflow. The throttling means of adjacent beams may be arranged with their sides in spaced or overlapping relationship, Figs. 6a and 6c (not shown), to contrict the flow cross-section by 30 to 70%, preferably 45 to 55%. The gas deflector shown in Fig. 5a includes a louvre 9 formed by slats 10 provided with bent-out tongues 11 at their downstream ends.
