Abstract

1392904 Measuring gas flow-rate concentration electrically SIEMENS AG 30 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 4702/73 Heading G1N Gas flow monitoring apparatus comprises a mixing vessel 3 provided with a pump 9 causing the gas of a first gas stream that is to be monitored and the gas of a second gas stream of substantially constant predetermined composition, to enter the mixing vessel in such a manner that the combined volumetric rate of flow VG of the gases into and out of the vessel is maintained at a constant known value throughout a given monitoring period despite variations in the volumetric flow-rate V(t) of the monitored gas stream and further comprising a flowmeter 6 connected to provide a measure of the instantaneous volumetric flow-rate VE(t) of the second gas stream, and a concentration meter 10 connected to provide a measure of the concentration of a particular gas e.g. oxygen in the gas flow from the vessel. Alternatively the flowmeter may measure the instantaneous volumetric flowrate V(t) of the first gas stream; or the concentration meter may measure carbon dioxide or there may be two concentration meters one for each gas. A computer circuit indicates at 15 mean volumetric flow-rate of oxygen (or CO 2 ) in the duct 2 and instrument 18 indicates mean oxygen (or CO 2 ) concentration in the duct 2.
