Abstract
936,037. Flowmeters. E. B .BELL. Aug. 29, 1961 [May 31, 1960], No. 19287/60. Class 37. In an arrangement for determining the volume rate-of-flow of a gas along a pipe 2, a gas which does not react with the gas being measured, for example CCl 4 , is injected into the gas stream at a predetermined rate by a dispenser 3, and the mixture is sampled at a point downstream by a collector 5 which is connected to an ionization chamber 6, the changes in ionization providing a basis for the determination of flow measurement. The apparatus sensitivity may be increased by diluting the sample with an inert gas such as argon from a container 10. Graphs showing current/voltage and current/volume rate-of-flow relationships are described with reference to Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown). The measurements may be displaced or recorded on an ammeter, or from recorder 9 after amplification in 8.
