Abstract

1391652 Weft measuring; shuttleless looms VYZKUMNY A VYVOJOVY USTAV ZABODU VSEOBECNEHO STROJIRENSTVI 19 May 1972 23794/72 Heading D1E In a jet loom weft is continuously supplied at a measured rate higher than that at which it is stored on a storage drum and the excess weft length is temporarily stored in loop form until picking withdraws the weft from both drum and loop. A driven storage drum 10, on a hollow shaft 7, has a belt 52 driving one roller 46 of a weft nip roller pair 46, 74. The driving surface 51 of the roller 46 is adjustable in diameter so that the nip rollers 46, 74 supply weft at a greater rate than that at which it is taken up on the drum 10. The nip roller 74 drives a roller 68 with a helical groove that draws weft 31 from a supply through a tensioner 80. Weft drawn from the supply by the nip rollers 46, 74 is projected in loop form into a chamber 59 from which it leaves by way of the brake 64 to the storage drum 10. The drum 10 has a retractable weft engaging claw 18 cam operated from a shaft 5 passing through the hollow shaft 7 and the drum is enclosed in a two part bayonet-jointed casing 26, 28 with a weft guide eye 34.
