Abstract
1390790 Anchors C A McDOWALL 4 Dec 1973 [14 Dec 1972] 57765/72 Heading B7S An anchor comprises a shank 3 of rectangular cross-section, two co-planar triangular flukes 13 each welded to a crown stack 19 and each formed with two oppositely directed flanges 15, 17, the flanges 15 being joined by a shaft 23 which pivots in a hole 11 in the shank 3 and by a stop bar 21 which engages the edge 5 of the shank at two spaced positions to limit the pivotal movement of the flukes 13, the flanges 15 or 17 constituting tripping means engageable with the bed of a body of water causing pivotal movement of the flukes 13 towards the the bed, depending on which way up the anchor rests on the bed. The flanges 15, 17 are of right triangular form and a hole 9 is provided in the shank 3 for attachment of a shuttle (not shown), and cable or rope. The position of the bar 21 is such that the shank may lie at a maximum angle of 37 degrees to either side of the plane of the flukes 13.
