Abstract
The easy recovery anchor has a body 1 and an attachment arm 2. Two shear pins 3 are inserted through plates 4, these being attached to the inside edge of the blades 1. When the upward pull 6 is increased by the angle of the warp and chain the stress on the shear pin becomes sufficient to cause the pin to shear and so allows the arm 2 to swing into a reverse pull position which in turn allows for the easy recovery of the anchor. <IMAGE>
Description
EE a s y Ete c o Cover y An c c or.
The invention relates to a easy recovery anchor.
Anchors are a well known item used to hold a boat in position in the water . When it is lowered from the boat to the sea bed by means of a chain or rope known as a warp or a combination of the two . It usually consists of a blade with an arm to which the chain or warp is connected . The idea being that the blade digs into the sea bed and hold fast and so stops the boat from drifting with the tide
Anchors are expensive and can easily be lost if they snag on the sea bed with the result that the chain and warp can be lost as well
The invention allows for the arm of the anchor to shear a pin
and so swing into a position giving a reverse pull on the anchor and so releasing it from the sea bed
The action of the invention will be descried by way of example with reference to the ccompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 shows in perspective the normal position of the anchor when in use
Figure 2 shows the position of the anchor in relation to the boat when at anchor
Figure 3 shows the position of the anchor in relation to the boat prior to the pin shearing
Figure 4 shows what happens when the pin shears
Figure 5-6 are cut away diagrams showing details of the invention .
Referring to the drawings the easy recovery anchor comprises of a blade 1 and an arm 2 that swivels on a bar 5 , two shear pin plates 4 and two shear pins 3 which hold the arm 2 in position during normal use
In order to release the anchor the boat is driven forward from the position shown in figure 2 to the position shown in figure
3 . This increases the stress on the shear pin 3 which then shears and allows the arm 2 to swing into a reverse pulling position
All that is required to reset the anchor is to return the arm 2 to its original position between the shear pin plates 4 and insert a new pin
Claims (1)
- C LA I M S 1 The easy recovery anchor comprises of a body in the form of a blade with shear pin plates and an arm secured to the body by means of a round bar on which the arm can swivel 2 The easy recovery anchor as in claim 1 has shear pins inserted through the shear pin plates to maintain the arm in the general holding position 3 The easy recovery anchor as claimed in claim 1 and in claim 2 provides for a section of the arm to be ground to a blunt edge so as to assist in the shearing action of the shear pins 4 The easy recovery anchor as described with reference to Figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings
