1387231 Non-woven pile fabrics E RASTELLI 9 Jan 1973 [11 Jan 1972] 1136/73 Heading D1K Pile fabrics are produced by feeding thermoplastic cords 17 through holes 2', 2 in plates 3, 1, looking the cords in holes 2 by tubes 5, laying a net-like layer or perforated sheet 16 on the top plate 1, passing a heated member 6 over the ends 17' of cords 17 to fuse them into a rivet formation 20, spreading thermoplastics material on the plate 1 and compacting it with a roller 11 to form a base layer 18 embedding sheet 16, releasing the cords in holes 2 and locking them in plate 3, and lifting plate 3 to raise layer 18 from plate 1 (II', Fig. 2) so that cutting means can shear cords 17. The cords 17 may be a number of yarns twisted together, or held together by an outer braided layer (17) Fig. 6 (not shown) or an adhesive which is dissolved after manufacture of the fabric. The layer 16 may be a perforated metal or plastics sheet or a loose net of natural or artificial fibres. The plastics base layer may be produced by traversing a receptacle 8 containing molten thermoplastics material over the plate 1, followed by a spreading roller 11. In a modification, the threads 16', 16" of which net 16 is composed may be coated with thermoplastics material which is liquefied by passing a heated member over plate 1.
