Abstract
1386208 Printers PAILLARD SA 7 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42086/73 Heading G4H In an ink-drop printer, abrupt variations in a deflection voltage applied across deflection electrodes 6a, 6b to deflect the ink drops are arranged to occur when no drop is between the electrodes. In the drawing, a D.C. generator 7 produces an electric field between a nozzle 1 and an annular electrode 4 to extract and accelerate the drops 3. As each drop leaves the nozzle 1, the slight change in potential of the nozzle is detected by a differential amplifier 8 via capacitor C1, the other input of the amplifier being provided to eliminate the effect of stray voltages. The pulses from amplifier 8 (one per drop) are shaped in a Schmitt trigger 9, delayed 10 and applied to a short-duration monostable 11 which permits a flip-flop 12 to pass a deflection order from 13 via an amplifier 14 to the electrodes 6a, 6b. As modifications, the drops may be detected photo-electrically, or their production may be indicated by the phase of a vibrator used for triggering delivery of the drops.
