Abstract
1379152 Roller cutters KENNAMETAL Inc 18 April 1972 17905/72 Heading E1F A rolling cutter for the cutting means of a tunnelling machine has a 10 provided with spaced bearing 16 confined between end members 12 that are fixed to the shaft and a rotary cutting member 22 surrounding the shaft and disposed between the end members and supported on the bearings. The cutting member 22 is generally cylindrical and has an outwardly projecting annular 24 in the axially central region of the member. Secured in the rib are two groups of hard metal inserts. The inserts 26 of the first group are located in the axially central region of the rib and the inserts 28 of the second group, which inserts are smaller than those of the first group, are located in the sides of the rib being grouped about the first inserts. The outer ends of the inserts 28 conform with the surrounding surfaces of the rib. Preferably the inserts are rod like, are cemented in correspondingly sectioned bores in the rib, and are formed of sintered tungsten carbide. The rib is V-shaped in section. The axes of the bores are in planes perpendicular to the shaft. The inserts 28 may have rounded outer ends.
