Abstract
1378891 Bright zinc electo-plating baths F POPESCU 3 Dec 1971 [3 Dec 1970 11 March 1971] 56218/71 Heading C7B An aqueous electro-plating bath contains a zinc salt, a brightener comprising at least one acetal or ketal of an aromatic aldehyde or ketone with one or more acetylenic alcohols, and a non- ionic or anionic wetting agent, e.g. produced from ethylene oxide. The brightener has the formula:- in which R 1 may be an aryl or heterocyclic radical (e.g. furane) which may be substituted by alkyl, hydroxyl or alkoxy radicals; R2 may be a benzene nucleus, hydrogen atom or alkyl or aryl group which may be substituted as per R 1 ; and R 3 and R 4 are radicles originating from acetylenic alcohols. Various examples are given of suitable aldehydes, ketones and acetylenic alcohols. The bath may also contain a monobasic carboxylic acid or salt, e.g. benzoic, anisic, vanillic, piperonylic, resorcilic, furoic, nicotinic or picolinic acid; unreacted ketone or aldehyde; complexing agent, e.g. ammonium chloride or a polyhydroxycarboxylic compound, and a buffer, e.g. boric acid.
