Abstract

1377015 Bending tubes B G FJALLSTROM 2 Oct 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 45392/72 Heading B3E A tube bender comprises a grooved anvil 7 and an abutment member 4, one of which is movable about the other, and a flexible chain of blocks 2 each provided with rollers bearing on the abutment member and a groove co-operating with that on the anvil so that a tube may be bent by wrapping the chain about the former. As shown, a fixed frame 8 supports the grooved anvil 7 on which is pivoted a lever 6 supporting the abutment member 4 on pivot 14. Rollers 5 of the chain of elements 2 bear on member 4, and terminate in a wedge block 1 reacting against a fixed block 8<SP>1</SP> to clamp a tube 12 on to the anvil. The other end of the chain is attached to an arm 13 pivoted on lever 6 at 16, and the chain is tensioned by wire 11 and hydraulic cylinder 9. As lever 16 is rotated about pivot 15, the chain rolls round member 4 and is wrapped round anvil, bending the tube.
