1,274,180. Printing surfaces. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK KOENIG & BAUER A.G. 19 April, 1971 [11 April, 1970], No. 26644/71. Heading B6C. A device for mounting a flexible printing plate 14 on a printing cylinder 1 comprises two tensioning bars 9 located in a groove 2 in the cylinder and each pivoted on a guide bar 7 formed on a drive-shaft 4 or 5 mounted for rotation in the groove whereby when a shaft 4 or 5 is rotated to an open clamp, position as shown on the left of the drawing, the side face 9.1 of the associated bar 9 engages an adjacent edge of the groove 2 and the inner end 9.2 of the bar is moved away from a clamping jaw 8 formed on the associated shaft so that the folded edge 13 of the plate 14 can be introduced between the bar 9 and jaw 8. The shafts 4, 5 are part cylindrical in shape and rotate in a similarly-shaped enlargement 3 of the groove 2. Anticlockwise movement of the shaft 4 is necessary to move its bar 9 to the position shown, and opposite rotation of the shaft 5 to move its bar to the corresponding position. A spring 12 biases the inner end of each bar 9 towards its jaw 8. If, after the introduction of both folded edges 13 into the groove between the parts 8, 9, the shafts 4, 5 are rotated clockwise and anticlockwise, respectively, the folded edges 13 are first clamped between the parts 8, 9.2, and then the outer edges 9.1 of the bars 9 are moved away from the adjacent faces 2.1 of the groove 2 to tension the plate. A leading-in plate 15 extends from each jaw 8 to guide the folded edges 13 into position between the parts 8, 9. The shafts 4, 5 are rotated about a central shaft 6 by levers at their ends.
