Abstract

1348469 Printing apparatus NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP 9 June 1972 [22 July 1971] 27040/72 Heading B6C A flexible printing plate 30 is retained on a plate cylinder 10 by engagement of its hooked ends 31, 32 with an abutment 21 or 22 and with one side of a T-shaped spring gripper 50. The side of the gripper used depends on the direction of rotation of the cylinder. The gripper 50 is mounted in a gap in a shaft 40, and when stressed moves its upper part to one side or other of the gap. Tensioning is brought about by moving a spring toggle constituted by arm 60, rod 62 and spring 66 from one end position through dead centre to its other end position. This may be done by application of a tool to a shaped end 41 of the shaft 40. The gripper 50 preferably extends the length of the cylinder 10, and is tensioned by spring toggles at the ends of the cylinder.
