Abstract
1375193 Electric heaters L OERTLING Ltd 17 July 1972 [13 Aug 1971] 38211/71 Heading H5H [Also in Division G2] A heated specimen stage with a rapid thermal response for a microscope comprises a metal sheathed element 6 in thermal contact with a base 10, in a chamber 4 having cooled walls, surround a specimen crucible 18. Cooling water is supplied and withdrawn via tubes 8 and 9 respectively and the chamber atmosphere may be altered via pipes 14, 15, e.g. nitrogen flow. The coil 6 is wired to a programmed control unit having coil and crucible temperatre sensors (17, 16, respectively). The window aperture 13 is positioned off centre with respect to a rotatable glass covering plate 11 so that a clear view may be maintained. The element may comprise a 1 mm. diameter Inconel (Registered Trade Mark) tube, an insulating packing of magnesium oxide and a nickel chrome alloy wire resistance element. The housing 1 may be of chromiumplated brass and the thermostats may be platinum resistors or thermocouples.
