1372205 Vapour drying and heating apparatus BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd 30 Nov 1971 [2 Dec 1970] 55506/71 Heading F4A Apparatus for drying and heating vapour comprises an elongate vessel V, Fig. 1, which encloses vapour distributing means D within a longitudinally extending chamber of the vessel interior, vapour drying means S arranged between the said chamber and another longitudinally extending chamber of the vessel interior and, within the latter chamber, a plurality of vapour heating tube bundles A, C, extending longitudinally of the vessel, and which vessel is adapted when suitably placed horizontally, for flow of vapour upwardly from the distributing means D, through the drying means S and over the tube bundles A, C, the tube bundles being individually replaceable and removable through apertures in the end walls 13, 14 of the vessel. The tube bundles are arranged in pairs end to end, and six such pairs are arranged in the vessel in two horizontal rows of three. Each pair comprises a tube bundle A and a tube bundle C, the tube bundles A and C being alternately arranged in the vessel, Fig. 3 (not shown), and one end of each tube bundle A projects through an aperture in the end wall 13, 14 of the vessel. Each tube is supported by wheels on a horizontal track, and during removal of individual tube bundles the tube bundle A is first removed through the respective end wall aperture followed by the tube bundle C. The heating tubes at the inner ends of the tube bundles extend through plates 16, 17 to return bends in a dead space defined by these plates. The vapour distributing means D comprises two sets of longitudinally extending ducts, Fig. 2 (not shown), having apertures in vertical side walls, and the drier S is a mattress of woven metal. The heating fluid for the upper three pairs of bundles may be live steam and the heating fluid for the lower three pairs may be steam tapped from a turbine.
