Abstract

1369433 Winches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 22 Dec 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 49932/70 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] A winch comprises an input shaft 11 manually rotatable relative to a drum 13 rotatable on a pedestal 10, a variable displacement hydraulic pump 15 having a rotor 16 drivingly connected to the input shaft 11, a fixed displacement hydraulic motor 24 having a rotor 26 drivingly connected to the drum 13, the motor and pump being hydraulically connected, and means responsive to the hydraulic pressure at the motor inlet being arranged to decrease the pump displacement as the said pressure increases, to increase the mechanical advantage of the winch. The inlet ports 36 to the motor 24 communicate through a passage 35 with a cylinder having a piston 33, the latter being coupled through a rod 34 with the motor swash plate 20 to alter its angle to vary the pump displacement, the less the pump displacement, the greater the ratio between input shaft and drum revolutions. The motor 24 comprises pistons 28 in the rotor 26 engaging cam surfaces 29, 30 on a stator 25.
