Abstract

1366957 Gear-grinding; gear-shaping F W F VON HOHENZOLLERN [trading as FURSTLICH HOHENZOLLERNSCHE HUTTENVERWALTUNG LAUCHERTHAL] 18 Aug 1971 [20 Aug 1970] 38774/71 Headings B3K and B3L [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] In gearing comprising an internally toothed outer gear-wheel 1 meshing an externally toothed inner gear-wheel 2, the tooth flanks 1a, 1b of the outer gear-wheel in sections normal to its axis are shaped by grinding and defined at least in the upper half of the height of the teeth by curves of constant distance from and radially outside one or two like hypocycloids H formed by rolling a rolling circle R on a base circle F that is concentric about the axis of the outer gear-wheel, the ratio of the radius rR of the rolling circle to the radius rF of the base circle F being an aliquant fraction of which the denominator is equal to the number of teeth of the outer gear-weheel and of which the numerator is equal to at least two and at most the number of teeth of the outer gear-wheel minus two, and the tooth form of the inner gear-wheel 2 in the region of engagement is approximately conjugate to the teeth of the outer gear-wheel 1 in the region of engagement. A method of grinding the tooth flanks of the outer gear-wheel 1 comprises grinding the tooth flanks whilst rotating the outer gear-wheel about its axis at a predetermined speed and simultaneously rotating the axis of the outer gear-wheel at a different speed about a second axis parallel to the outer gear-wheel at a different speed about a second axis parallel to the outer gear-wheel axis at a distance therefrom equal in length to the radius of the base circle diminished by the length of the radius of the rolling circle, the radius of the rolling circle, the ratio of the speeds of rotation being equal to the ratio of said distance to the radius of the base circle. Apparatus for carrying out this method comprises a base 10, Fig. 4, rotatably carrying an eccentric shaft 12 on which is rotatably mounted a work-table 18 to which a gear-wheel 1 is clamped. A disc 13 is secured to the shaft 12 and carries two meshing pinions 14, 15, the pinion 14 meshing teeth 16 on the base 10 and the pinion 15 meshing teeth 17 on the work-table 18. A grinding element 7 is mounted on a support 21 and is driven by a motor 23. The work-table 18 is driven by a pinion 19 from a motor 20. This apparatus may be modified as shown in Fig. 7, in order to generate a set of gear teeth on the inner wheel 2 which is clamped to a supplementary coverplate 30. A vertically reciprocating tool drive 32 carries a segment 34 of an internally toothed gear as the tool. In a further embodiment, shown in Fig. 9, a grinding disc 44 is mounted in an arm 43 which at one end can swivel about an axis 42, and at the other end is guided in a sliding block 50 carried by an arm 51 fast on gear-wheel 19.
