Abstract

1363085 Supply system for discharge tubes J E F HOLLEY 13 Oct 1972 [6 Dec 1971] 56610/71 Heading H2H [Also in Division A5] A supply circuit for a discharge lamp PF comprises a discharge initiating circuit, a circuit for maintaining the discharge without illumination of the lamp and a circuit for intermittently switching on the lamp to produce light pulses. The lamp is used in a tachistoscope and a 400 volts discharge initiating potential is provided by a Cockcroft tripler circuit CT connected to the 100 volt tapping of a mains transformer. The discharge maintaining circuit is connected to a 40 volt tapping of the transformer and a 7 volt tapping supplies a heating current to the cathode of the lamp. A further seven volt tapping supplies power to a trigger circuit for a transistor TR which is switched on for successively increasing durations to enable the lamp to emit flicker-free light pulses of successively increasing durations.
