Abstract

582,408. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRANCIS, V. J. Aug. 8, 1941, No. 10092. [Class 39 (i)] In a H.P.M.V. lamp the distance between the electrodes is so small that the wattage of the lamp divided by the distance between the electrodes is greater than 5000, the lamp is operated on direct current, the anode has a substantially greater cross section than the cathode, and the quantity of metal in the lamp is such that the cross section of the discharge column is not substantially greater than that of the cathode. The lamp will then afford a brightness of the discharge column not less than 200,000 stilb. Specifications 485,489 and 497,813 are referred to.
